On 1 January 2025, the Greenland Film Institute was established after many years of work and effort by Greenlandic filmmakers. This became possible when the Greenland Film Institute passed the Greenland Film Act No. 65 of 6 December 2024 on film, which entered into force.
The Greenland Film Institute is organized with three main functions: as a film institute responsible for the development of the Greenlandic film industry, as a film fund responsible for supporting film production, and as a national film commission.
The Film Institute is organized as an independent public institution. It is led by a board of directors consisting of five members with connections to the film industry, while the daily management is handled by a Film Institute Director.
The Film Institute is the public institution in the Greenlandic film industry and collaborates closely with Filmiliortarfik (Film Workshop) and the filmmakers' organization Film.gl
The Greenland Film Institute is an independent public institution.
The Greenland Film Institute will perform the function of national film commission.
The Greenland Film Institute provides financial support for Greenlandic film productions.
The Greenland Film Institute has the 'Inatsisartutlov om filmvirksomhed' (Inatsisart Act on Film Industry) as its foundation
